WeSwap, a currency travel exchange platform, conducted a survey across more than 2000 adults in the UK and dug into their user feedback to find the top countries. The factors they used to rank their list were safety and the overall quality of experience.

1. Finland is currently the world’s happiest country, it appears to be rubbing off on some of its visitors. It was also named one of the safest places for solo travel.
2. New Zealand’s otherworldly landscapes and a laid-back atmosphere make it a popular choice.
3. Uruguay boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the Americas.
4. Japan is one of the top bucket-list destinations for all travellers, with great food and unique cities.
5. The Netherlands has a great party atmosphere but Amsterdam is still named one of the safest cities in the world.
6. Canada is known for friendly locals and pristine nature spots.

In a previous study published in late 2018, Japan topped the list for the best destination for solo female travel, followed by France and Spain. These destinations could well be in for a bit of a tourism boost if the solo travel boom continues to explode. According to Google Trends, interest in solo female holidays has risen by a whopping 131%, hitting an peak of 100 million searches in 2018.

It’s not just planning either. British Airways recently reported that around 50% of women around the world have taken a solo trip, with 75% planning to do so in the next few years. WeSwap reported that 56% of women said taking holidays was essential for their well-being, with 34% saying it was their ultimate goal when saving money.
